Elixirs of Youth: Can we eat – or at least swallow – ourselves beautiful?
December 13, 2016 | By: High50

Yasmin-Le-Bon-Anti-ageing beauty supplements are set to become an even bigger trend in 2017.  Rather than slapping more and more lotions and potions on our skin, we’re now looking to wear our beauty on the inside, swallowing pills that promise to give us glowing, plumped up skin, shiny hair, sparkling eyes and glossy nails.   High50 picks 3 of the most popular on the market and tries to make sense of the hype.

There’s a lot of science behind LUMITY but we know that it contains the highest quality natural ingredients and key nutrients that nourish skin, hair and nails and revitalises every cell. It’s more about the scientifically calculated balance of vitamins, minerals and vital amino acids than the ingredients themselves as they all combine to work with the body’s natural cycles delivering targeted nutritional support to prevent and undo the damage caused by ageing.  Ultimately, it’s all to do with telomeres – the protective caps at the end of our chromosomes that shorten as we age and then our cells die.  Very, very simply LUMITY helps keep telomeres long so we age less fast.

lumity supplementIngredients are suspended in flax seed oil, which is rich in omega 3 and allows superior levels of absorption. One known ingredient is the all-important L-cysteine, which upgrades the body’s stores of glutathione, a powerful force against free radicals.  It also contains a unique amino-acid combination of lysine, arginine and glutamine that naturally stimulates the release of Human Growth hormone, important for building muscle, healthy tissue and bone density and repairing and regenerating all the body’s tissues. We also know LUMITY is free from artificial colours, flavours, dyes, caffeine, dairy, eggs, GMO”s, melatonin, nuts, paragons, petrochemicals, preservatives, soy, sugar, wheat, synthetics and yeast.

The ingredients collaborate internally to renew and replenish us.  Rather than trying to correct or change how our body functions, LUMITY supports and enhances our body’s tendency towards health and youth over inefficiency and ageing.  The idea is we retain the energy and radiance of our youth as we mature.

You take three capsules in the morning, which fire up the energy centres of your cells, giving you a new level of vitality and energy. The synergy of ingredients work together to boost the collagen and elastin formation in your skin, clear out age accelerating toxins, protect your DNA and repair oxidative damage. At night you take another three to reinforce the antioxidant and anti-glycation action of the morning capsules. The powerful antioxidant action in these capsules works to neutralise free radicals, thus preventing them from attacking and damaging the cells’ components.

LUMITY is the brainchild of Sara Palmer Hussey PHD, a Cambridge University scientist and ageing expert.  It claims to be the first ever supplement to target the nine processes of ageing simultaneously after years of scientific research and trials.

Yasmin Le Bon is amongst LUMITY’s high profile fans and has said it has helped her sleep, given her more energy and improved her hair, nails and skin.

Cosmopolitan features director, Amy Grier, also loved it  – see what she says here.

It can take up to three months for the signs to be really evident but it will go to work immediately and some people claim they see visible results after ten days.

  1. Laminine

Its key ingredient is a protein extracted from a nine-day-old fertilized avian egg, when the cells are at their optimum in terms or energy, information and regeneration.

The human body requires 22 essential amino acid to function at its best and this protein extract claims to contain 20 of these essential acids – the other two are derived from a blend of phyto and marine proteins, added to make Laminine® complete. The extract also contains Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGF), a growth protein that occurs naturally in the body and can help heal wounds.

This one-a-day tablet, produced by an American company and endorsed by a clutch of Hollywood actors and actresses.

It claims to calm, ease menopause symptoms, cure insomnia and alleviate stress and joint pain. It claims to contain the proteins or amino acids necessary to build and repair tissue while FGF stimulates our body’s own stem cells to regenerate and repair.   The marine protein, glycine, promises to slow down the ageing process by building collagen, keeping skin and hair in good condition and enhancing the circulation of blood which can improve the libido.

Acting like stem cells, FGF can differentiate into a wide variety of healthy cells which the body utilises to help repair damaged and dysfunctional tissues. Laminine uses a system similar to a check list, so it will work on the primary complaint first and then move on to the next issue and so on. Therefore, the longer you take Laminine the more balanced and harmonious your body will feel.

  • I just thought you would like to know how pleased I am with the results of Laminine.  I have never EVER felt as well as I do right now, I only wish Laminine capsules would have been around when I was running my company 20 years ago.  I sleep so well and I’ve noticed I never ever wake up tired as I used to do.  The fatigue has completely gone.  I visited by oncologist having been diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago, she was shocked at my blood results as they showed they were much healthier than last time. She was very impressed none the less and asked if I could give her a leaflet on the capsules.   So grateful that you have made me so happy and in such a good mood.  Best wishes from a VERY happy customer.  June Cadman.
  • Where has this product been since I hit my forties… I can’t rave enough about it.  People keep telling me I look amazing and my skin is clearing up.  It has changed my life because the doctors kept saying “oh you’re a woman of a certain age” and I can’t take HRT due to a high risk of cancer in the family.  Laminine has literally turned things around for me, this list is endless and I am out of pain.  Mandy Clement.

Laminine has also attracted quite a bit of criticism for over-egging its claims, like here.  Dr.  Bill Sukala says Laminine  is ‘little more than a lot of hot air and egregious marketing embellishment’.
