The town of Henley has always enjoyed a raffish air, so where better to find one of our favourite classic gins?
The town of Henley has always enjoyed a raffish air. It is a party place, especially when the world famous Henley Royal Regatta, Henley Music & Arts Festival and Henley Literary Festival are in town, so where better to find one of our favourite classic gins?
Mr Hobbs Henley Gin was created by the Hobbs family, who were inspired by their ancestor, Mr Harry Hobbs, who was a larger than life character during the Victorian era. He founded the famous Hobbs and Sons (now Hobbs of Henley) boating company and was publican of The Ship Hotel. He was something of a party boy and distilled his own gin, which he apparently enjoyed during mid-morning punting trips.
The Mr Hobbs 150 London Dry Gin has won a bunch of awards. Bursting with 14 botanicals including the light perfumed notes of Cubeb Berries with warmth and spice from Black Pepper and Cardamom. There are nuanced floral notes from Meadowsweet and Elderflower that are both locally sourced on the Riverbanks of the Thames, followed by the refreshing citrus notes of Yuzu and Lime.
The Mr Hobbs Henley Gin collection also includes The Original, featuring Harry Hobbs’s old recipe from 1870 and two fruit flavoured gin liquors, Raspberry and Elderflower and Rhubarb and Ginger. You can find out more about the gins on the Mr Hobbs Gin website.
