The new film starring Liam Neeson and his son Micheál Richardson gives us a welcome blast of Tuscan sunshine.
Dreams of a summer holiday in Italy might be on hold but you can still enjoy the gorgeous scenery of Tuscany vicariously through new film Made in Italy about to air on Amazon Prime. Liam Neeson takes a break from action roles to star as Robert, a bohemian London artist who sets about renovating a dilapidated Tuscan villa inherited from his late wife. He is also trying to repair his relationship with his estranged son Jack, who is played by Neeson’s son with the late Natasha Richardson, Micheál.
Although billed as a comedy, the film has poignant undertones, as the pair deal with grief and loss. Lockdown DIY sufferers might also empathise with Robert (Neeson’s) struggles to renovate the villa.
Written and directed by James D’Arcy and with a strong cast including Lindsay Duncan as a briskly efficient estate agent and Valeria Bilello playing local chef Natalia, the film oozes Italian charm, from the rolling scenery to the plates of risotto in the local trattoria. For those planning their next Italian trip, whenever that might be, the film was shot in the Tuscan countryside of Monticchiello, in the Pienza municipality of the Val d’Orcia.
Made in Italy will be available to watch on Amazon Prime Video exclusively from 26th March 2021.
