You may love it and hate it in equal measure, but Fifty Shades of Grey is going global, and it's time to take a look. Plus, the top songs from that steamy soundtrack
[field name= Fifty]
What on earth has happened to me? A few years ago I resolutely scoffed at all those who had read the Fifty Shades books.
“Oh no,” I would say, “my friends told me not to read it because the crap grammar would drive me nuts.”
In all honesty I felt that this kitchen-sink smut was pretty sad. But after a chance viewing of the trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey, I’m a convert, sort of.
Let’s be clear, I hated everything about the concept, the books and the movie, until I watched two minutes of it. And it’s pretty hot.
Sure the critics will take it apart for its poor plot (though hopefully the screenplay is better written than the book) and I’m not suggesting everyone gets down to a sex dungeon, but as a bit of sauce on a Friday night it certainly fulfills a niche that has been wanting in mainstream cinema of late.
Perhaps my current infatuation with Jamie Dornan (of The Fall fame) had a lot to do with my piqued interest, but the trailer got me and, shockingly, I’ll now definitely see the film.
My husband had no complaints either, so have they hit the jackpot?
I appreciate this is no Oscar winner, but who are we to knock sultry sex on screen?
Sure it’s going to be an unbelievable plotline with a protagonist who is broken yet loveable (ugh). But I have to doff my cap at a film that just went for it. Hell for leather (whip).
And rather than knock it, shouldn’t we celebrate a little PC porn that will probably bring lovers out of their shells and open up new discussions?
And what am I doing while I write this? I’m listening to the new Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack on Spotify. And guess what? It’s pretty good too. Oh god, am I a fan now?
Steamy, sultry and dreamy.
Dance in the kitchen, then head to the bedroom
Crazy in Love – Beyoncé
Probably still one of the best parts of this film.
Eyes Wide Shut This film still has something of the taboo about it. Stanley Kubrick’s exploration of adulteress impulses with Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise starring.
Basic Instinct Sharon Stone sets a whole generation trembling.
Last Tango in Paris Marlon Brando and the infamous apartment sex scene.
The Secretary Sultry sadomasochism.
Dangerous Liaisons 18th-century sexy romps.
