Every week High50 scours the high(50) street for bargains to suit our generation and we try everything we recommend on to make sure it’s neither matronly nor girlie.
We love Uniqlo and its practical, well-priced, sporty basics. We like the fact it is airy and spacious, not too crowded and noisy (no blaring music) and has lots of fitting rooms. Plus we can have our clothes altered for free (or just £3.00 if you spend under £19.00). The top 5 products High50 recommends are:
We were bowled over by the quality of these classic 100% French linen shirts and think they look four times their price. Don’t go for the sleeveless ones as they’re cut too loose round the shoulders so your bra straps will show at the back. Opt instead for the elegant long-sleeved shirts in an array of delectable, expensive-looking summer colours – from cornflower blue or olive to lemon yellow and a pale, pale pink. All will look great with white trousers or jeans. Try a size smaller than normal for a slim, flattering fit.
Ever innovative, we love Uniqlo for bringing us these comfortable, flattering jeans in varying shades of denim blue, white or black. Denim is combined with soft lyocell rayon to make the jeans forgivingly stretchy but not clingy while netting in the high waist holds the stomach in and helps eliminate muffin top.
These are Uniqlo’s staple fare and as good as ever. They are so lightweight (we hate anything heavy at our age) that they can be bundled into a handbag and the technology means they really work and keep us warm. We love the more summery white, beige and light blue, particularly the streamlined Compact Vest with its lower, less bulky neckline.
In no end of colours from brights to classic black or white, these are the most useful, slim fitting vests money can buy. 100% practicality and simplicity with 0% fuss.
In grey with lime green stripe or navy with orange stripe, these are great value jogging or yoga pants. They’re also extremely comfortable (Polyester and Elastane), flattering (as far as any leggings can be) and we think they look just as good – if not better – as anything from Sweaty Betty or Lululemon.
